This didn't quite turn out like I hoped...but it kinda worked!
So I had some lace left over from my french maid costume, and thought it would be fun to use it as a sort of stamp to an old boring shirt. So I painted the lace and then "stamped" it on the shirt.
I went over it a couple of times, but this it didn't fill in all of the spaces.
I even pressed down on the lace using a book. Maybe I just needed more paint? But I was afraid to use too much paint because I wasn't sure if that would mess up the lace lines - does that even make sense?
Here's what it looked like the first time I pulled off the lace. I went over it a few times after this picture.

I still wore it but...um...not sure if this is public worthy! :) But, then again, I figure I'm going with the distressed look.
Here's the close up again
I would try using it more as a stencil. Lay it on your shirt and then paint through it, like in this tutorial. http://www.danamadeit.com/2012/02/tutorial-doily-heart-shirt.html
ReplyDeleteI just tried this! It didn't work at all but I'm thinking it could be the lace that I have - too many little holes. I think she used a dolly in this example, I'll have to look for one like that to try it with! Thanks!!
DeleteThat was a neat idea! Maybe if it is a less dense lace, like bigger spaces, the paint would go through better. Don't give up trying! It has to work! -Jessica @ HomeWe'reBuilding
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think it was the lace - I'll have to keep looking and try again! :)
DeleteDistressed is the new black! ;) Love the concept, and you've given me a great idea to try when I have a stain I can't get rid of on a favorite t-shirt. Super creative!
ReplyDeleteI dunno, I think it looks pretty cool! Definitely feeling the distressed vibe. :-) cool idea though either way!
